Our volunteers are vital in our mission to provide housing stability and economic independence among poor families and youth of New York City and we look to you to help us in our continued efforts.
Family Assistance Mentors intends to build on the success of the Healthy Family/Healthy Relationships Initiative previously implemented across our programs between 2006 and 2008. FAM will be a resource for family advancement to families experiencing homelessness and housing instability. Through the Family Assistance Mentors (FAM) project we will expand personal support to families who have experienced housing instability to help them build their financial management skills.
The Family Assistance Mentor (FAM) project will
§ Recruit, train and link a minimum of fifteen (15) mentors with families that desire ongoing support in navigating the often uncertain waters of housing, employment, education and financial management.
Those interested in volunteering should possess the following skill sets:
Open minded and non-judgmental
Desire to share knowledge to benefit others
Understand boundaries and know when to involve social service professionals
Basic understanding of personal finances, banking and credit card management
Critical thinking skills and problem solving abilities
Able to participate in 90 minute training to learn about the challenges facing lower income households who may be under-employed and have lower level reading skills
Use excel to prepare monthly feedback sheet to agency and have access to the internet
If you are bi-lingual Spanish that would be great as some households do not have strong English skills. But don’t be deterred if you do not speak Spanish, we will only pair mentors with those with whom they can communicate effectively.

Furniture Donation Service Coordinator
Daytime weekdays/flexible schedule
Responsibilities include: providing support to an essential component of our homelessness prevention program by assisting in our Furniture Donation Services. Help underprivileged families across the City, by answering our Service Hotline and coordinating requests for furniture.

Summer Youth Program Leader or Team Member
Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. June through August
Share your time and creativity with the children from Nazareth Housing. Lead other volunteers and children in games, activities, arts and crafts projects. Contribute to the curriculum of Summer workshops for kids or simply participate in the projects!
All Volunteers will require a brief training is provided by Nazareth Housing staff.

Volunteer Programming Assistant
Work with our Social Services Staff to coordinate volunteer speakers, activities and events that support our work to end homelessness and strengthen families. Help arrange workshop speakers, programming calendar and special events for the many families and children we serve.
Flexible hours, good phone and organizational skills and computer ability needed. Great opportunity for someone who is an organizer with creative flair!
