Nazareth Housing wants to help you, your family and your friends file their taxes free of charge! It is important to file your taxes in order to become eligible for money that the US Government may owe you and to be eligible for certain entitlements. Beginning January 24, 2012 we will be accepting appointments to help qualified individuals and families file their city, state and federal taxes. As part of the initiative, it is our goal to help families and individuals access their Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC). The EITC is a government refund in the form of a tax credit to help low-income working individuals and families alleviate financial burdens. For example, a single parent with 3 children can receive a maximum federal EITC of $5,751 for tax year 2012.

Also, the NYC School Tax Credit is a $62.50 credit given to all NYC residents who file a state tax return. This credit is available regardless of income.  All retired New Yorkers or people receiving public benefits, who are not being claimed on another person's tax return, should file their taxes and receive this credit.
