January 30, 2010 2nd Annual Kathy's Day: Be Happy Be Well

Caring for your Mind, Body and Soul

On Saturday, January 30th, 2010 Nazareth Housing hosted its 2nd Annual Kathy’s Day Event. This day is dedicated in memory of Kathy Callaghan Badolato, the late sister of Nazareth Housing Executive Director Michael Callaghan, c.o. The day was filled with positive energy and focused on healthy living. Free health services, were provided to all who participated such as mammograms, asthma consultations, blood pressure testing, HPV and vaccine information and more. Our utmost appreciation goes out to The American Italian Cancer Foundation for providing free mammograms for women in the community. We would like to thank the Beth Israel Latino Health Institute, the HIV Department at Ryan Nena’s Community Health Center, Beyond the Bridge and the Roberto Clemente Center for providing our attendees with vital information regarding their health and wellness. We would also like to thank the Karpas Health Department of the Beth Israel Medical Center for performing blood pressure testing as well as supplying our attendees with material on hypertension and diabetes. Thanks to Jey Park of Vital Ki Energy of Jungshim for performing and teaching relaxation techniques to those who attended. We are grateful for Cheryl Springer-Azzez, RN at the Brooklyn VA for supplying information on smoking cessation. Special thanks to our board member Dr. Alice Beal, Pulmonary Specialist at Brooklyn VA Hospital for her support and expertise throughout the day. While the mom’s focused on getting answers to their health questions, the children were treated to a workshop where they too learned the benefits of healthy living. We look forward to another successful event in 2011.
