Over 250 guests attended Nazareth Housing’s Annual Benefit honoring Priscilla Almodovar, President and CEO of the New York State Housing Finance Agency. The New York Junior League was also recognized, receiving Nazareth Housing’s Community Service Award. Gena Lovett graciously accepted the Community Service award on behalf of The New York Junior League. Judd Levy, Chairman of the New York State Housing Finance Agency, presented Priscilla Almodovar with the 2009 Honoree Award. Ms. Almodovar addressed the crowd praising the passion of Nazareth Housing in its mission. The Benefit, held at the Columbus Citizens Foundation, received was a highly energized cocktail reception featuring two client speakers who shared their stories since coming to Nazareth. The event ended on a wonderful note as one speaker was able to surprise her daughter with the announcement that they would be moving in to permanent residency.
Over $250,000 was raised in support of the organization’s mission to prevent and end homelessness. The money raised will help Nazareth Housing support the ongoing critical work we do with homeless families and those experiencing crises in housing and family well being such as providing shelter, permanent housing, prevention and family strengthening services and youth programs.
Opening remarks where made by Nazareth Housing’s Board President, Steve Edwards, Attorney & Partner from Hogan & Hartson LLP. The Annual Benefit Committee Chair, Christine McCann Hamner of Goldman, Sachs & Co. ended the program thanking the supporters of the agency and the staff who do the work each day.
“The past 12 months have been incredibly dynamic at Nazareth Housing. We have experienced incredible growth in the numbers of clients served as well as the scope of our supportive programming. We are exploring ways to promote affordable housing and we work diligently to provide supportive programming and services to help struggling families”, stated Michael Callaghan, Executive Director of Nazareth Housing.
