Annual Benefit to End Homelessness 2011

More than 200 guests attended the Nazareth Housing Annual Benefit on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at the Harvard Club in New York City.  The event raised over $226,000 to support the mission of Nazareth Housing to prevent and end homelessness.

Michael J. Callaghan c.o., Executive Director, presented the awards and praised the honorees for their dedication to helping families and communities achieve a better quality of life. Gordon J. Campbell, President and CEO of the United Way of New York City received the 2011 Community Services Award for his creativity and vision in forging collaborations among the nonprofit, private and public sectors.  In his remarks, Mr. Campbell called Nazareth Housing “a hidden gem” in the New York City nonprofit sector.

Honorees included the law firm of Debevoise & Plimpton and housing developers Omni New York.  Accepting for Debevoise and Plimpton were John Kiernan, Partner, and Ellen Breitner, Director of Operations, who were commended for the firm’s ongoing commitment to providing pro bono legal services, material support and holiday gifts for homeless children.  Accepting on behalf of Omni New York was former baseball star Maurice “Mo” Vaughn and Gene Schneur, co-founders.  Mr. Callaghan applauded Omni New York for their success in revitalizing communities by building safe, secure and affordable housing where it is most needed.
